The Elements Hosts ‘The Art of Tea’ Talk Show Event

On Thursday, March 15, 2018, The Elements Apartment held a charming and insightful talk show themed “The Art of Tea” at its Marketing Gallery, located on Jalan Epicentrum Boulevard Barat in the heart of Rasuna Epicentrum, Jakarta.
Exploring the Elegant Tradition of Afternoon Tea
The event featured Ria Musiawan, author of Small Things That Matter, as the guest speaker, joined by an audience of around 60 guests, most of whom were distinguished women from public and professional circles.
Ria shared the fascinating origins of afternoon tea, tracing it back to 1840s England, where it was introduced by the Duchess of Bedford, Anna. This tradition, known for its elegance and social charm, has since evolved into a beloved ritual around the world.
Low Tea vs. High Tea: Understanding the Etiquette
Ria explained the difference between Low Tea and High Tea. Low Tea typically takes place between 3 PM to 5 PM, using low tables, and is more associated with social elegance. High Tea, on the other hand, originated from the working class and is served at high tables, often involving heartier meals.
Etiquette Tips for Afternoon Tea
During the session, Ria provided practical etiquette tips, including Always keep the setting neat and well-arranged. When using a low table, lift your teacup along with its saucer. At high tables, lift only the teacup. When sipping tea, keep your eyes on the cup. Enjoy pastries slowly, one small bite at a time, and avoid speaking while chewing.
These subtle etiquettes, she emphasized, reflect grace, mindfulness, and social awareness—traits that matter even in the smallest moments.
A Delightful Afternoon of Culture and Class
In addition to the engaging talk show, guests were also treated to a live harp performance by Ussy Pieters, adding a sophisticated ambiance to the event. The session also included a presentation of The Elements Apartment by Mayorien Soesanto, offering attendees a closer look at the premium lifestyle and facilities offered by this high-end residence.
